Year 7- Transition Day
Our year 7 Transition Day – induction events will be held on Tuesday 30th June and Wednesday 1st July.
Your child will have been be allocated only ONE of the above dates to attend Heartlands High School for their Transition Day. You will have been sent a letter with the date that you and your child have to attend. This is an essential opportunity for our new year 7 students to meet their new peers in their learning group and equally, for the new students to learn about the school.
It is important that both you and your child attend this induction event.
On this day, we ask students and their parents/carers to arrive at 8.45am for an assembly, which will start at 9.00am at our main entrance Gate 2. Please also ensure that your child brings a school bag, bottle of water, writing equipment and their current reading book.
On your arrival, you will be met at our reception where you will be registered before being escorted to the Assembly Hall.
- May we ask that you please bring with you proof of ID for your child, if you have not already done so before the Transition Day.The Reception staff will take receipt of this ID
- We do require that all students bring with them 2 passport photos of themselves. Please make sure you have written your child’s full name in capital letters on the reverse of each photograph.
We ask students to come in their current school uniform or smartly dressed formal wear, if your school does not have a uniform. No baseball caps, hoodies, jeans or trainers are allowed in school, please.
Students will be collected from the assembly at 9.15am and taken on a tour of the building and attend sessions on our Beyond Words reading scheme, complete a reading test, meet the student council and get to ask any questions about how a Heartlands student conducts themselves at secondary school. Lunch will be provided in our restaurant school (as our guests).
Parents/ carers will remain in the auditorium where there will be a short presentation for parents/carers and chance to introduce you to our Heads of House and the Leadership team. There will also be some time to ask any other outstanding questions that you may have. Parents/carers are asked to stay in school to attend this session, which will end no later than 10.15am.
The Transition Day will end at 14.30pm and all new students will be dismissed from our main entrance, gate 2. Unless you let us know otherwise, we will allow your child to make their own way home. Siblings will be allowed to stay on site to wait for their brothers/sisters. Please notify staff of your intentions, when registering in the morning.
Please note that school uniform will be on display on the Transition Day, but you will not be able to purchase uniform then. Uniform sales are by appointment only during term time and on the two allocated Sundays, so please contact our main Reception for an appointment slot.
