Below is a summary of how lost property is dealt with at Heartlands High School. We appreciate that replacing lost items can be expensive, so hopefully these guidelines will help.

In the unfortunate event that your child does lose something, they should:

• Visit the last area they were in. If the item is not there, they should retrace their steps and check all classrooms/areas that they have been in that day.

• If they have been unable to find their lost item, after retracing their steps, they should go to Student Services to check whether the item has been handed in. Please note that sometimes, it takes a few days before lost items make their way to Student Services.

• All lost property that is labelled and is handed in to Student Services will be returned to its rightful owner.

• Lost property that is not labelled will be held for four weeks. At the end of this period, it will be placed on display in the Forum. Any lost property not claimed, will be donated to a local charity shop.

Please remember that we have approximately 1,100 students at Heartland High School wearing the same uniform. We cannot recognise items as belonging to a particular student if it is not labelled. If property is labelled however, it can be promptly returned to its owner, thus avoiding distress and a costly replacement. Labelling uniform is very easy to do, there are lots of different items available on the market such as sew on or iron-on name tags, simply writing your child’s name in full, or initial and surname on the label of clothing, or inside shoes or trainers with a good quality laundry marker pen or permanent marker pen however, is more than adequate. If you choose to use a marker pen, please remember that washing will make your child’s name fade.
