Together in Solidarity – Black Lives Matter

8th June 2020Ms E Roberts

Embracing diversity, promoting equality, and being fully inclusive are at the centre of all we do at Heartlands Community Trust. Our schools are reflecting on the death of George Floyd and the response from the Black Lives Matter movement.

We recognise our duty to ensure that we speak out and send a message that we all agree that racism is unacceptable and prejudice is never to be tolerated.

We pledge to

  • Champion equality, ensuring we are driving change and dismantling systemic racism through our behaviours, curriculum and policies
  • Continue to offer opportunities to listen to all members of our community
  • Relentlessly show the love, dignity and respect which everyone deserves
  • Create opportunities to work with all stakeholders to listen, learn and take action together to improve the life chances for all
  • Commitment to ensuring our workforce reflects local diversity and that we maintain a supportive and inclusive working environment, which is free from discrimination or harassment

In this way we will honour the memory of George Floyd (1973–2020), and all those who have suffered the consequences of racism, and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Anthony Billings
Chief Executive Officer
Heartlands Community Trust

E-Safety advice for students

14th May 2020Hill

Understandably, lots of us are using social media to stay in touch with friends and family. Social media is a great way to stay connected but make sure you are following these top tips to stay safe online:

  1. Privacy and security settings exist for a reason. Make sure yours are up to date.
  2. Once posted, always posted. Think twice about posting anything you wouldn’t want your parents or future employers to see.
  3. Keep your personal information, personal! The more information you post, the more information someone has that could be used in a negative way such as fraud.
  4. Be honest if you feel uncomfortable.
  5. Know what action to take. If someone is upsetting you online, block them and report them to the site admin team. Do not retaliate.

If you are worried about cyber-bullying there is lots of advice here. Please don’t forget that you can report bullying on the school website here too – even though we are not at school it is still our job to make sure you feel safe and happy.
