We look forward to seeing Years 8 to 11 back to school at 10.30am (Gates open 10.15am) on Wednesday 4th September.
Have a safe and happy summer from all the staff at Heartlands
Dear Parents/Carers,
My name is Mr Maclaren and I am the Outdoor Coordinator at Heartlands. This year Heartlands are offering your son/daughter an amazing opportunity to participate in a trip to Bude, which is an activity centre in Cornwall.
The Centre offers a huge variety of activities including surfing, climbing, abseiling, canoeing and many others activities. The trip will leave Heartlands on Monday 16th July and return on Thursday evening of 19th 2018. Spaces are limited and to be put on the shortlist, students must collect a letter from me.
The cost of the trip is £300 per pupil (£200 for pupils who are Pupil Premium) and will cover accommodation, coach travel, three meals per day, all activities and specialist instructors and equipment. It also includes evening entertainment such as campfires, BBQ’s and on the last day a disco. To help with the cost of the trip a payment plan is available which is shown in the letter below.

We are delighted with a fantastic set of GCSE results this year. Students have worked incredibly hard to achieve some very impressive outcomes which represent great progress. We are especially pleased that 9 students were awarded the new top grade in English Literature and 3 students in Maths; this new grade 9, designed to sit above the traditional A* standard places them in the top 3% of students nationally. .
We wish the 2017 cohort all the best in the next stage of their education and congratulate them on their outstanding achievement.
I would like to thank our incredible staff who worked tirelessly to support students to achieve these results.
Elen Roberts
Head of School

Exams season is fast approaching and Year 11 students are working hard to prepare themselves for their public examinations which begin in a matter of weeks. At this stage, Year 11 students should be using the mantra of ‘3 hours per day, 5 days per week’ or ‘15 hours’ as a guide to the amount of independent study they need to be doing to succeed in the Summer. Please click the link to view the Public Examination timetable. Students will shortly receive their personalised exam timetables but this is the complete schedule of all exams so parents and students can plan around these important dates.

Other students in the school are also gearing up for the exam season. Now that most GCSE qualifications are assessed wholly through exams, it is more important than ever that students develop sound revision and exam skills. Students from Year 7 to Year 10 will sit tests in the Summer Term which will mirror those they will sit for public examinations over the next few years. They will also experience sitting some exams in the Sports Hall, so that they are prepared for the regulations and routines of the real thing. More information will follow about how you can support your child to develop vital study skills so that they are well prepared for these assessments. The timetables are provided below so that you are aware well in advance of the key dates. The AFA4 report to parents will summarise the results of these end of year assessments and will arrive at the end of the Summer Term.
