Some of our pupils went to the Guardian to interview authors for World Book Day, see the video below!
We are delighted with an excellent report from Challenge Partners about the standards of Achievement, Teaching, Partnerships and Leadership in the school. Challenge Partners are an organisation who lead school improvement initiatives through collaboration between schools. This half-term they completed an external review of the school and judged that we have ‘improved beyond the Good grade as judged by Ofsted in the schoolâs last inspection’ and that our school improvement strategies are ‘outstanding’. We believe that consistently good and outstanding teaching at Heartlands has put us on a course to outstanding results in summer 2015 and it is very encouraging to have this confirmed by an external assessor.

Following excellent attendance at the Year 9 options evening, parents and carers are reminded that the deadline for choices will be February 5th. This is also the date of the Year 9 parents evening.
This is a key event in which students and parents / carers will find out which pathway you are on, which options are available to you, and how the options process will work. There will be stalls to visit, teachers to talk to, and a big presentation to explain the process at 6pm.
Students must attend with parents / carers: if this is impossible they should obtain a note and get permission from their Head of House to attend alone BEFORE the event. Students need to attend in uniform and to bring a pen.
After the evening there will be a month to consider options. The deadline for forms will be February 5th.
100% attendance and 100% engagement with the process are essential! See you there.
We look forward to seeing all students back in school on Monday 5th January at the normal time of 08:25.

Our first SEARCH day of the year is this Friday 12th September, SEARCH Days are our days of active learning and are very popular with the students. On SEARCH days we finish at the normal times for the school day at 15.10pm, except on Fridays where we will finish at the new time of 13.50pm.
This Friday 12th September we will be  holding a Year 7 parents âmeet and greet sessionâ. This is a chance for new parents/carers to get to know your childâs tutor.
Current students from Years 8-11 will be dismissed at 13.50pm â even Year 11, who usually have PE for two hours on Friday afternoon.
All our Year 7 students will stay on site until 14.20pm or until their parents/carers arrive for their meet and greet session.
We will ask Year 7 parents and carers to enter via the Main Entrance from 14.00pm. Please do not come before as we will be dismissing the other year groups. Your child will then come and collect you from the Central Forum and take you up to meet the tutor.
If you wish to come and meet your childâs tutor please complete the reply slip on the letter sent home on Tuesday 9th September  and ask your child to return it to the Main Reception by Friday 12th September by 8.30am. This will enable us to assess numbers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss the first two weeks transition period for your child and discuss how you feel the start at Heartlands has gone.
