On Monday 22nd June, some of our Year 9 Scientists spent a day at Alexandra Park School, looking at Physics in Sport and Medicine. The day consisted of three sessions: ‘Speed and Power’, ‘Medical Physics’ and ‘Aerodynamics and Vision’.
In the first session, the students used a Wattbike to find out their power output and could compare themselves to household appliances and cars. They calculated their running
speed and acceleration too.
In the Medical Physics session, the students enjoyed using ultrasound scanners to look at their kidneys and hearts and they had a great time trying on a radiation suit.
The final session on aerodynamics and vision saw students sticking their heads into a wind tunnel with different hats on to see which was most aerodynamic, and trying on goggles which simulated different types of vision problems.
