As a specialist Arts school, we are keen to open our doors to other schools and members of the community. In particular, it’s great to work with our feeder primary schools; we have run workshops with 3 different primary schools already this year, giving them a taste of HHS life and access to our great facilities. The most recent workshops, with North Harringay Primary, involved a 6 week series of sessions at HHS, 3 in Music and 3 in Art. Year 7 students from HHS supported the workshops, in which the year 5 students honed their music performance, sculpture, painting and photography skills. Feedback from students was really positive including comments like: ‘I can’t wait to come to this school!’. Here are some wonderful examples of their clay sculptures, photographed by the students themselves. We look forward to working with other primary schools in the future.
Some of our pupils went to the Guardian to interview authors for World Book Day, see the video below!
Alex Vonckx, Year 8, was recognised for his outstanding achievements at last week’s Haringey Aquatics annual awards ceremony.
At the recent 2015 Middlesex County Swimming Championships, he secured 6 medals for the club, 4 silvers and 2 bronze; one of the club’s highest-ever medal counts by an individual swimmer.
Well done, Alex!
The Heartlands Debate Team took part in the Debate Mate Schools’ competition on Saturday 7th February.
Throughout the day students competed in four rounds of debate against schools from across the country. It was a brilliant experience for the students; they got to argue their points and ideas confidently and articulately. All members of the Hearltands Debate Team showed incredible dedication and determination to succeed and we are incredibly proud of them.
On the 22nd January, Heartlands High School had the privilege of hosting the first round of the ESU Winston Churchill Public Speaking Competition.
It was an incredibly interesting night with great speeches from a range of students from schools across North London. The caliber of speeches was phenomenal and we are pleased to announce that Heartlands were the proud runners up. The team were made up of Year 11 students: Leart Shabani, Tanzim Khan and Priyanka Patel, who spoke wonderfully on a range of tough topics. Congratulations and well done to them!

We are delighted with an excellent report from Challenge Partners about the standards of Achievement, Teaching, Partnerships and Leadership in the school. Challenge Partners are an organisation who lead school improvement initiatives through collaboration between schools. This half-term they completed an external review of the school and judged that we have ‘improved beyond the Good grade as judged by Ofsted in the schoolâs last inspection’ and that our school improvement strategies are ‘outstanding’. We believe that consistently good and outstanding teaching at Heartlands has put us on a course to outstanding results in summer 2015 and it is very encouraging to have this confirmed by an external assessor.
