Oxfam Art Project for Glastonbury Festival

We are very excited to share these images of the artwork we created for Oxfam, which will be displayed at Glastonbury Music Festival. The school was asked to take part in this project because we have a fantastic group of Oxfam Youth Ambassadors who have already been working on global citizenship projects inspired by Oxfam. These students and other talented year 9 artists were asked to design and paint this huge 3m x 2m banner to represent Oxfam’s values. In particular, special recognition goes to Sonia Paul put in a lot of time and effort and Wiktoria Sniadowska who worked on the initial design and showed huge amounts of commitment to the project. We look forward to seeing photos of it on display in the VIP area at the festival itself.
We’ve already had fantastic feedback on twitter from the Oxfam Education team who said ‘Thank you for all your hard work @HHSHaringey – your banner looks great!’.

HHS Students hear President Obama give a presentation

Five lucky Heartlands High School students had the opportunity of a lifetime on Saturday 23rd April 2016 when they were invited to a youth event at a London Town Hall hosted by President Obama. Obama gave a speech to the audience of youth leaders and took questions on topics from the Black Lives Matter campaign to LGBT rights. ​​​

Ride London

During the Easter holidays 7 Y11 students went with Mr Levis, Mr Brierley and Ms Tillson to the Olympic Velopark to meet Bradley Wiggins. This was the launch event for Ride London, and specifically the 46 mile event the students will be taking part in. The students were fantastic throughout the day, meeting the Tour De France and Olympic Winner, and even putting him through a difficult question and answer session!

World Autism Awareness Week 4th – 8th April 2016

As part of World Autism Awareness Week, we are holding a series of workshops for Parents on various topics surrounding Autism. Some of the workshops, topics such as ‘Puberty’, and ‘Behaviours that Challenge’ have been run before, but all parents are welcome, even if you had attended previously.

 

We will also be holding a general coffee morning which will be a great opportunity to have open discussions about any topic surrounding Autism and this will be an excellent time to ask any questions that you may have.

Details of each workshop are as follows:

  • ‘Speech & Language’ Workshop on Monday 4th April 10am – 11am
  • ‘Puberty’ Workshop on Tuesday 5th April 10am – 11am
  • ‘Coffee Morning’ on Wednesday 6th April 10am – 11am
  • ‘Behaviours that Challenge’ Workshop on Thursday 7th April 10am – 11am

House of Commons Trip

On March 2nd, students from Year 10 and 11 were given the fantastic opportunity to represent the school at a ‘Super Tuesday’ event at the House of Commons. They were able to put their questions to a panel of journalists and politicians about the US Presidential election nominees. Students were also very excited to bump into Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn as they walked through Westminster Hall!

February is national LGBT History Month

February is national LGBT History Month – a chance to highlight and celebrate diversity in our communities.
 
Heartlands LGBT Society, Student Librarians & Library bookclubs have been reading a selection of books on this topic bought with a generous grant from the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation. The books are now available for all students and staff to read, from the Library.
