Supporting English & Maths
Achieving a Grade 5 or above in both English and Maths is particularly important, as it is a key requirement for entry into many sixth forms and colleges. It also helps to keep a wide range of Post-16 opportunities open.
To help support your child, here is some guidance on how you can support them at home:
English Literature
- Revising directly from the revision guides they have been provided with (CPG)
- Learning and memorising key quotations
- Creating theme and character mind maps/ flashcards
English Literature
- Watching structured revision support such as Mr Bruff and Course Hero videos
- Using Educake and the Wizard tool to test themselves regularly
Mathematics
- Your child should identify topics they are struggling with by completing past exam papers .
- They should then go to Corbettmaths click on “Videos” to view a demonstration and “worksheets” to practice this topic. Answers are also available
- They can also go to Maths Genie to view all topic list and practice questions
- Attempt the “Independent Learning” tasks on Sparx maths

Supporting your child at home
Year 11 students should begin creating a structured revision timetable, particularly for the Easter holidays.
To help your child prepare effectively for their upcoming GCSEs, we kindly ask that you encourage them to:
- Create a structured revision routine: Help your child build a realistic timetable that balances study, rest, and leisure. Consistency reduces stress and improves retention.
- Provide a calm, organised study space: Ensure they have a quiet area with minimal distractions, good lighting, and the resources they need to revise effectively.
- Encourage regular breaks, sleep, and healthy habits: Good sleep, proper meals, hydration, and short breaks during study sessions all improve focus and wellbeing.
- Stay engaged and positive: Talk to your child about what they’re revising, check in on their progress, and praise their efforts. Positive encouragement boosts motivation and confidence.
- Use school resources and ask for support: Ensure they attend revision sessions, complete practice papers, and make use of online platforms provided by the school. Contact teachers if they need help with tricky topics.
- Removing phones and other devices during revision time will help your child focus without distraction, allowing them to concentrate more effectively and build consistent study habits each day. We strongly suggest doing this each evening and at the weekends when students should be working.
